Mark Hunt Arrested on Domestic Violence Charges in Australia

The combat sports world has been rocked by troubling news as Mark Hunt faces serious legal consequences in his native Australia. The former UFC heavyweight was arrested on domestic violence charges this week, marking a dramatic fall for one of the sport’s most beloved knockout artists.

Mark Hunt Arrested After Police Response in Northern Rivers

Police responded to an incident in the Northern Rivers region of north-east New South Wales on Tuesday evening, ultimately leading to Hunt’s arrest. The 52-year-old heavyweight was subsequently transported to Ballina Police Station, where he was formally charged with one count of stalking or intimidation with intent to cause physical harm.

Moreover, Hunt was refused bail and appeared before a magistrate on Wednesday, highlighting the severity of the allegations against the former UFC star.

From UFC Headliner to Legal Troubles

This arrest represents a shocking turn for the fighter known as the “Super Samoan,” who carved out a legendary career spanning eight years and 18 fights in the UFC between 2010 and 2018. Hunt headlined five separate UFC events during his tenure and challenged Fabricio Werdum for the interim heavyweight title at UFC 180.

Furthermore, Hunt’s combat sports resume extended beyond mixed martial arts, including memorable boxing matches against rugby league icon Paul Gallen and dual-code superstar Sonny Bill Williams. His knockout power and warrior spirit made him a fan favourite across multiple disciplines.

However, Hunt’s relationship with the UFC soured following his 2016 bout against Brock Lesnar. After Lesnar’s positive drug tests came to light, Hunt launched unsuccessful legal action against the UFC, Dana White, and Lesnar himself. The Ninth Circuit of Appeals upheld the ruling in favour of the UFC and White in 2025, nearly eight years after Hunt first commenced proceedings in 2017.
