Man United Agree Éderson Transfer Deal With Atalanta in £35m Move

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Atalanta midfielder Éderson, sources have confirmed to ESPN. The Brazilian will become the first signing of the Michael Carrick era, with the Italian club accepting an initial £35 million fee plus up to £4 million in performance-related add-ons for the 26-year-old.

Éderson Transfer Deal: Terms, Timeline and What It Means for United

Éderson will pen a contract through to 2030, with an option to extend by a further year. United had been monitoring him for some time and moved decisively after his proposed switch to Atlético Madrid collapsed. Over four seasons at Atalanta, the Brazilian accumulated 180 appearances and earned three senior international caps — a player with proven top-level pedigree. ESPN reported that the deal will be completed once he clears his medical. Straightforward on paper, massive in significance.

The agreement marks a swift first move under Michael Carrick’s permanent reign at Old Trafford. Furthermore, it signals genuine ambition in the transfer market after a difficult few seasons. United fans will be hoping this is merely the opening chapter.

West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes and the Left-Back Search Also on United’s Radar

With the Éderson business wrapped up, United are now ready to accelerate their pursuit of West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes. Sources told ESPN that United have already opened dialogue with West Ham over the 21-year-old, who looks set to depart the London Stadium following the club’s relegation to the Championship. That’s the kind of opportunity smart clubs pounce on — and United appear to be doing exactly that.

Meanwhile, a left-back remains firmly on the agenda. Genuine concerns persist over whether Luke Shaw can cope with the demands of Premier League and Champions League football in the same week — three games in seven days is brutal, and United know they need cover. It’s a problem they simply cannot afford to ignore heading into a season of that magnitude. On top of all that, goalkeeper André Onana’s future remains unresolved. The 30-year-old spent last season on loan at Trabzonspor and, sources confirm, intends to report back to Carrington for pre-season if no fresh exit has been agreed beforehand. United have made their position clear — he has no future at the club. Whether a buyer emerges quickly will be one of the subplot stories of the summer.
