Arsenal Sign Piero Hincapié Permanently After Title-Winning Loan Spell

Arsenal have made the Piero Hincapié permanent signing official, activating their purchase option to bring the Ecuadorian defender to the Emirates on a full-time basis from Bayer Leverkusen. The deal kicks in on 1st July — and frankly, it was never in doubt.

Piero Hincapié Permanent Signing: What He Brought to the Gunners

The 24-year-old arrived on loan last summer and immediately made himself at home in north London. He racked up 39 appearances across all competitions as Mikel Arteta’s side claimed the Premier League title, with Hincapié making 20 starts in the top flight alone. Even more impressively, Arsenal conceded just 27 league goals during that run — one of the meanest defensive records in the division. He made his debut in September and never really looked back. Furthermore, he earned his place in the starting XI for the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain — that’s the kind of statement that renders any transfer debate redundant.

A Career Built on Big Moments

Before Arsenal came calling, Hincapié had already lived a full career at the top level. He made 166 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen, playing a key role in their historic unbeaten domestic campaign and their first ever Bundesliga title in 2023-24. His journey to Germany began in his homeland with Independiente del Valle, before a move to Argentine club Talleres in 2020 led him to Leverkusen the following year.

On the international stage, Hincapié has earned 54 caps for Ecuador and represented his country at four major tournaments, including the 2026 World Cup. This lad has seen it all — and he’s still only 24. Arsenal have tied down a defender with serious pedigree, Champions League final experience, and years of peak football still ahead of him. Business done.
